Because of Luke

I've been dipping in and out of this idea of having a blog. The inspiration for blogging comes from Jenny and Ser, and Nancy, and, tonight, especially Luke. I visit Jenny and Ser at the same time, from time to time. It's always when my kids are either in bed or in their bedrooms, sleeping or reading. Whatever they are doing, they are, for at least some amount of time, not in need of me. That is when I check to see what is on the minds of Jenny and Ser. Through their blogs I can sometimes learn about what's on Nancy's mind. Not what they are doing, but what it is about their day that made them stop and think. It's window shopping into my friend's thoughts. Free. No store hours. No coupons. No planning on the train schedule. Totally indulgent.

I was propelled to take another stab at this Blog thing because I have something to say to Ser about Luke. I also checked Jenny's and can see no posts, which isn't surprising, although I know she has a lot on her mind since she's moving from only two floors down to halfway around the world. She is so funny! Two days ago she was out drinking coffee while wrapped in a blanket to keep warm. I wondered what she was thinking ... maybe take in a bit of cold before heading to Hawaii? Enjoying the view off the Old Porch, believing it would look different the next time she saw it (there's a thought behind that, too).

So here's to shopping through the minds of my blog-inspiring friends.

Oh, friend (can I say your name?), I'm so glad you started your blog! I can't wait to read some of your full of wisdom stories. I miss them.

Your comments over on my blog are so kind and inspiring, they made me cry. Thanks so much. I think you are an amazing mom and I have learned a lot from you.

Ser, I was eagerly awaiting a comment. It took some self control not to email you with an alert! I changed my post name. Another small item I've learned how to do on my blog. looking forward to a blog-inspiration! -- Marji

Marji,

I am so glad you started this blog because when I am away I will hunger for your stories, your courage, your sense of humor and your friendship.

It gives me comfort to think that I'll be able to stop by your blog and be with you, in a way.

BY the way, I love the window shopping metaphor. That's exactly what it is! I love having a glimpse into the minds of the people I love. I actually begged Ser to start her blog, because as we would talk I would hear so many blog posts spilling out of her. All this material, lost! It pained me that it wasn't being written down for the world to see.
I've felt exactly the same way about you during our conversations. So many blog posts in you--one that comes to mind right now, although I doubt you'd write about it--was that workshop you attended where you were the token white person and had to field questions about your name and learn about the subtle differences in language.
